A recent molestation case in Bengaluru has triggered country-wide outrage and criticism of the Karnataka government's response. On April 3, a man was seen on camera molesting a woman in the Suddaguntepalya area as she walked with her friend.
The molestation took place at 1:52 am, and the video went viral on social media, wherein one can see the man thrusting one of the women against the wall before he flees.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara also came under attack for downplaying the incident by saying that such things occur every now and then in large cities. The opposition BJP and the National Commission for Women (NCW) condemned him in totality and demanded an explanation from the Congress government.
Despite the public outcry, Parameshwara once again expressed his highest priority on women's safety, directing police to step up night patrols and good surveillance systems.
Bengaluru police have registered a suo motu case and are examining CCTV footage of over 300 cameras to monitor the accused. But the investigation is tainted by the poor quality of the video and the reluctance of the victims to assist the investigation.
