The already strained marriage between Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh and his wife Jyoti Singh took a dramatic turn on Wednesday as both held separate press conferences, making serious allegations against each other.
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Jyoti Singh accused her husband of physical and emotional abuse throughout their marriage. In perhaps her most disturbing allegation, she claimed Pawan repeatedly forced her to take abortion pills despite publicly expressing his desire for children.
"He used to give me abortion pills. Someone who truly wants a child doesn't give his wife medication," Jyoti told the media. She went on to describe a harrowing incident where she consumed 25 sleeping pills at 2 a.m. after allegedly facing torture when she objected to his actions.
Jyoti said she was rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Andheri following the incident, accompanied by members of Pawan's team.
Hours later, Pawan Singh held his own press conference, dismissing his wife's accusations as exaggerated and misleading. The actor claimed that when Jyoti visited his Lucknow residence recently, he treated her with respect and they spoke for over an hour.
According to Pawan, Jyoti's primary demand during their meeting was that he help her contest elections—something he says is beyond his control. He also clarified that police were already present at his residence that morning for supervision and were not summoned by him.
"For me, the public is God. I would never hurt the sentiments of those who helped me reach this position," Pawan stated, emphasizing his respect for his fans.
The couple, who married in 2018, have been experiencing marital problems for several months. Back in August, Jyoti made an emotional appeal on social media, alleging that Pawan had been ignoring her calls and messages for months.
In her Instagram post, she described feeling desperate enough to consider self-harm, though she said she couldn't go through with it due to concerns about how it would reflect on her family. She claimed she had traveled to Lucknow and Dehri during Chhath to meet him, but he refused to see her.
"What grave offense have I committed that I am being punished like this?" Jyoti wrote at the time, calling it her "final plea" after seven years of struggle.
The public airing of such serious allegations has shocked fans of the popular Bhojpuri actor. As divorce proceedings continue, both parties appear determined to present their versions of events to the public.
The situation highlights the increasingly common trend of celebrity couples taking their personal disputes into the public domain, often through press conferences and social media. For now, the truth remains somewhere between these conflicting narratives, known only to those directly involved.
What's clear is that this once-private marital crisis has become a full-blown public controversy, with both sides seeking support for their claims.
