A huge blast was heard at the residence of BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar around 1 am on Tuesday, the news agency ANI reported. The police have initiated an inquiry and are reviewing CCTV footage to determine the reason for the explosion.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur has confirmed the incident and said that a forensic team is attempting to determine whether it was a grenade attack or not.
"We got a report of a blast at around 1 am," Kaur said. "We went to the spot and started our probe. The forensic team is going through the spot and we are also checking CCTV footage."
Manoranjan Kalia, senior BJP leader, said he initially believed the explosion was thunder.
"There was a blast at around 1 am," Kalia informed ANI. "I was sleeping and thought it was thunder. I later heard it was an explosion. I then sent my bodyguard to the police station. Forensic experts are present, and we are scanning the CCTV footage."
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manpreet Singh also confirmed the incident. "The forensic team will inspect the area and submit their report," he stated.
There have been no reports of any injuries as yet.
