Sunny Deol’s Border 2 has emerged as Bollywood’s first major box office success of 2026, crossing the ₹400 crore mark worldwide within two weeks of release. The Republic Day weekend release has struck a chord with audiences, combining patriotic sentiment with large-scale war drama, and has quickly become the highest-grossing war film in Indian cinema.
The film opened to a powerful first week, collecting ₹224 crore net in India, including a massive ₹59 crore on January 26 alone. Its second week added another ₹71 crore, taking the domestic net collection close to ₹300 crore by day 15. With a few more crores expected before the run tapers off, the film is likely to finish around ₹430–440 crore globally. Overseas, however, the film saw a strong opening weekend before collections plateaued, with total international earnings projected at around $6 million.
In terms of raw numbers, Border 2 has overtaken the lifetime collections of Uri: The Surgical Strike and Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter to become the biggest war drama ever. But the story changes when profitability is considered. Uri, made on a tight budget of under ₹50 crore, delivered extraordinary returns and remains one of the most profitable films in the genre. Gadar 2, another Sunny Deol blockbuster, still towers above both in terms of lifetime worldwide collections, having crossed ₹690 crore on a comparatively modest budget.
With a reported production cost of ₹275 crore, Border 2 is undeniably a commercial success, though not as wildly profitable as Uri or Gadar 2. Still, its performance signals a strong start for Bollywood in 2026 and reinforces Sunny Deol’s renewed box office pull. Producers have already hinted at Border 3, suggesting the franchise is far from done marching ahead.
