The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked Jai Anmol Anil Ambani, the son of industrialist Anil Ambani, along with Reliance Home Finance Ltd. (RHFL) in connection with a Rs 228 crore bank fraud case. The complaint was filed by Union Bank of India, formerly known as Andhra Bank, officials said on Tuesday.
The case pertains to allegations of cheating against RHFL, which is accused of causing significant financial loss to the public sector bank. The CBI investigation follows a complaint from the bank regarding credit limits availed by the company. According to the complaint, RHFL, along with Jai Anmol Ambani and Ravindra Sharad Sudhakar, both directors at the company, secured credit facilities amounting to Rs 450 crore from the bank's SCF branch in Mumbai for its business operations.
The complaint further alleges that the company defaulted on its repayments, leading to a loss of Rs 228 crore for the bank. The CBI has now initiated a probe into the matter, with the accused facing charges of cheating and financial misconduct.
This development is the latest in a series of legal challenges for the Ambani family and highlights ongoing concerns over financial irregularities in corporate borrowing and lending practices.
