NEW DELHI: The Union Government has officially released a gazette notification listing gallantry awards conferred upon defence personnel for exceptional courage and service, including those recognised for their roles in the recent Operation Sindoor. The awards underscore the bravery and dedication of the Indian Armed Forces in safeguarding national security and responding to critical operations.

Operation Sindoor, a meticulously planned mission carried out earlier this year, involved coordinated action across multiple fronts to neutralise emerging threats and secure strategic objectives. Personnel involved in the operation displayed extraordinary valour and resilience, earning them recognition in the form of distinguished gallantry awards.

The gazette notification, published by the Ministry of Defence, details the names of officers and soldiers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force who have been recommended for various awards, including the Sena Medal, Kirti Chakra, and other commendations for gallantry. The list also highlights individuals who performed acts of conspicuous bravery in challenging operational conditions.

Defence officials stated that these awards not only honour personal courage but also reflect the collective commitment of the Indian Armed Forces to maintaining the nation’s security and responding to threats with precision and professionalism. “These recognitions are a testament to the extraordinary skill, discipline, and courage demonstrated by our personnel in operations like Sindoor, which often require rapid decision-making under high-risk scenarios,” a Ministry spokesperson said.

The notification has been welcomed by senior military officials and political leaders alike, emphasising the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices and heroism of armed forces members. The President of India, as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, is expected to present the awards in upcoming ceremonial functions, further recognising the contributions of these service members.

Operation Sindoor’s inclusion in the awards list signals a broader acknowledgement of modern, complex military operations that go beyond conventional combat, showcasing India’s evolving defence capabilities. Analysts note that recognising personnel involved in such missions boosts morale and encourages continued excellence within the armed forces.

The gallantry awards ceremony will serve as a reminder of the bravery exhibited by Indian soldiers, sailors, and airmen, inspiring the next generation of defence personnel to uphold the highest standards of courage, dedication, and service to the nation.
