Chhattisgarh Police Launch Probe Into Sexual Harassment Allegations Against Senior Officer

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Police have set up a two-member committee to investigate sexual harassment claims against IPS officer Ratanlal Dangi, following a formal complaint filed by a sub-inspector’s wife. The committee, led by Inspector General Anand Chhabra and DIG Milna Kurre, will examine allegations from both sides and take appropriate action based on findings.

The complaint, submitted to the state Director General of Police on October 15, accuses Dangi of exploiting the woman and subjecting her to long-term physical, mental, and financial harassment. According to the complainant, the officer maintained contact after meeting her during his tenure as Korba district superintendent of police, allegedly exerting pressure and threatening her husband’s transfers when she resisted advances. Digital evidence was reportedly provided to support these claims.

In response, Dangi has denied the allegations, asserting that the woman had been harassing him over several years. He claimed that she attempted to blackmail him, created disturbances at his residence, and circulated objectionable material to defame him. Dangi also said that the situation caused significant mental distress and strained family relationships.

The inquiry committee will first record the woman’s statement, followed by the IPS officer’s version, with an emphasis on sensitivity and impartiality. Authorities have stressed that the investigation will be thorough, and any action will be based solely on the findings of the probe.

Dangi is currently serving as the director of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose State Police Academy in Raipur. The case has drawn attention due to the seniority of the officer involved and the seriousness of the allegations, highlighting ongoing concerns about accountability and workplace safety within law enforcement agencies.

The state police have assured that the investigation will be conducted fairly, balancing the need to protect complainants while ensuring that due process is followed for all parties involved.
