A major development may soon bring the Commonwealth Games back to India after two decades. The 2030 edition of the Games is likely to be hosted in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The Commonwealth Games Executive Board has recommended the city as the potential host, though the final decision will be taken in late November during the General Assembly in Glasgow.

The Indian government has already submitted an official bid to host the Games. A delegation from the Commonwealth Sports Association of India and the Government of Gujarat, led by Union Minister of State for Sports Harsh Sanghvi, presented India’s proposal before the international authorities.

Ahmedabad’s advanced sports infrastructure, including the world’s largest cricket venue  the Narendra Modi Stadium  has made it a strong contender. The city’s experience in hosting major events, such as the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup final, further strengthens its case.

India last hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010, in New Delhi. If chosen again, this will mark India’s second time hosting the global sporting spectacle. Experts believe the Games could provide a massive boost to India’s economy, tourism, transportation, and hospitality sectors.

For now, all eyes are on November, when the final announcement will be made. The sporting world eagerly awaits to see whether Ahmedabad will officially become the next host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
