Court Allows Blast Accused to Meet Lawyer

Delhi court on allowed Jasir Bilal Wani, an accused in the Red Fort blast case, to meet his lawyer at the National Investigation Agency headquarters, court sources said.

The order was passed by Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna of the Patiala House Court after the accused sought permission for a legal consultation at the NIA office. Court officials confirmed that the plea was accepted during the hearing. Wani is currently facing trial in connection with the Red Fort blast case, and the request was made to facilitate a meeting with his counsel for preparing his defence. The court reviewed the submission and permitted the meeting in accordance with procedural requirements.

The development came a day after the Delhi High Court declined to issue any direction on the same plea. The High Court had stated that Wani had “failed to show any order passed by the trial court rejecting his prayer”, and therefore refused to intervene. Following this, the application was placed before the trial court again on Saturday. Court sources stated that arrangements will now be made to ensure the meeting takes place under the guidelines applicable to accused persons held in cases investigated by the NIA. The order is expected to assist the defence in further case preparations.

The trial continues before the Patiala House Court, with further hearings scheduled as part of ongoing proceedings.
