To mark her 30 years in the film industry, Karan surprised her by reading Adira’s letter, addressed simply to “Mamma.” As the filmmaker slowly read the note aloud, Rani was visibly moved, and several in the audience were left teary-eyed.
In the letter, Adira expressed her deep love and admiration for her mother, calling her “the best mother in the world.” She fondly mentioned the many memories they have shared together joyful, emotional and funny. The note also struck a candid tone, with Adira sweetly admitting that while there are many qualities she loves about her mother, there is one she doesn’t her short temper a trait she says she has also inherited. The child further wrote that she has picked up creative skills like acting, dancing and painting from Rani, making the note both affectionate and charmingly honest.

During the same interaction, Rani reflected on her early struggles in Bollywood. She recalled how her voice was dubbed in Aamir Khan-starrer Ghulam after concerns were raised about its suitability. She also shared how Karan Johar later encouraged her to use her real voice in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, a decision she credits for helping shape her distinctive screen presence.
