A shocking case of violence has emerged from south Delhi’s Aya Nagar, where a 52-year-old man was brutally shot dead in what police describe as the fallout of a long-running family dispute. The victim, identified as Rattan Lohia, was killed on November 30 after multiple assailants opened fire on him early in the morning as he stepped out of his house for work.
According to Delhi Police, forensic examination revealed that Rattan Lohia was hit by an extraordinary 69 bullets, underscoring the extreme nature of the attack. Investigators recovered empty cartridges and three live rounds from the crime scene. CCTV footage from around 6 am shows three attackers waiting inside a black Nissan Magnite near the Sunday market in Aya Nagar. The vehicle’s number plates had been deliberately removed, suggesting premeditation.
Police sources say the attackers fired from inside the car and fled immediately after the shooting, killing Rattan on the spot. Investigators are now probing a possible contract killing angle, with indications that gangsters operating from outside India may have been hired to carry out the murder.
Family members allege that the killing was an act of revenge linked to an earlier murder within the same extended family. In May this year, a man named Arun, the son of Rambir Lohia, was shot dead while returning home in his car. In that case, Rattan Lohia’s elder son, Deepak, was arrested by police.
Rattan’s daughter told reporters that her father had been receiving threats from Rambir and his relatives for a long time, though she maintained that he had no direct personal enmity with anyone. The victim’s sister added that the conflict originated from a clash between members of the younger generation, which later escalated into deadly violence.
Delhi Police say multiple teams are working on the case, analysing CCTV footage, call records and possible gang links, as the investigation continues into one of the most gruesome family-feud killings seen in the capital in recent times.
