NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old forensic science student in Delhi, inspired by crime web series, allegedly plotted what she believed to be the “perfect revenge” murder of her live-in partner but a crucial mistake exposed her plan and led to her arrest.

According to police, the accused, a resident of Dwarka, had been living with her 25-year-old boyfriend for nearly a year. Their relationship had reportedly turned violent and abusive, prompting her to plan his murder as an act of revenge.

Investigators revealed that the woman meticulously researched crime investigation methods online, using her academic background in forensic science to cover her tracks. She allegedly watched multiple web series and true-crime documentaries to study how to avoid leaving behind evidence.

the day of the incident, she reportedly spiked her partner’s food with sedatives before attempting to kill him. However, her plan unravelled when a neighbour heard loud noises and alerted the police. The police arrived at the scene within minutes and found the man unconscious but alive.

During questioning, the woman initially tried to mislead investigators with a fabricated story but later confessed after forensic inconsistencies were detected. Officers said her attempt to erase digital footprints, including deleting search histories and messages failed because data recovery specialists retrieved her online research on poisons and forensic concealment techniques. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) stated that the accused “mistook her theoretical knowledge for real-world expertise” and underestimated the precision of police investigation methods.

The man is recovering in hospital and is out of danger. The woman has been booked for attempted murder and criminal conspiracy, and police are examining whether anyone else was involved in the planning. Officials described the case as “a chilling example of obsession with crime media turning into criminal behaviour.”
