Seventeen-year-old Akshatra Singh, accused in the tragic Dwarka SUV crash that claimed the life of 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra, is struggling to focus on his Class 10 board examinations amid mounting stress and threatening calls, his lawyer revealed on Tuesday. The incident occurred on February 3 when a Scorpio SUV hit Sahil’s Yamaha R15 near the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management in Sector 11. The SUV then collided with a parked Swift Dzire, leaving cab driver Ajit Singh injured. Sahil died on the spot from severe injuries, including fractured ribs, a broken elbow, and skull trauma, according to the post-mortem report.
Akshatra, who comes from a studious background and is a gold medallist, was taken into custody and sent to an observation home after being produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. He was granted interim bail on February 10 to allow him to appear for his board exams. Defence lawyer Lal Singh Thakur highlighted the teen’s calm handling of the situation at the crash site, emphasizing that he did not flee, and said the family has faced extreme pressure, including over 1,400 threatening calls. “The level of torture has increased so much that we fear for the child’s wellbeing. He is under tremendous stress,” Thakur told ANI.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother has publicly condemned the teen’s reckless driving. She stated that her son’s death was avoidable and demanded strict action against the minor, alleging negligence on the part of his parents. “This is not just an accident. My son died due to their carelessness. Strict action should be taken; he didn’t even have a licence,” she said.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, while both families remain under immense emotional strain. The incident has reignited debates about juvenile accountability, road safety, and the pressures faced by young students caught in legal proceedings, highlighting the broader social challenges when accidents involve minors.
