A 16-year-old Class 10 student from a prominent central Delhi school died by suicide at a west Delhi metro station on Tuesday afternoon, leaving behind a handwritten note alleging harassment by multiple teachers and the school principal. The note, recovered from his school bag, detailed months of repeated scolding, humiliation, and pressure to achieve higher marks, which the boy described as relentless “torture.”
Police received an emergency call around 3 pm reporting that the student had fallen from the metro station building. Despite being rushed to a private hospital in his school uniform, he was declared dead on arrival. His note also included a heartfelt plea that no other student should face similar treatment, and he expressed remorse toward his parents and older brother.
The boy’s father, a businessman from Karol Bagh, said the student had studied at the same school since Class 2 and had been complaining about teacher harassment for nearly a year. He mentioned that on the day of the incident, his son had collapsed at school but was accused of pretending, which worsened his humiliation. The family had planned to transfer him after Class 10 but asked him to continue until board exams.
The incident triggered immediate outrage among parents and students, who gathered outside the school demanding action. Delhi Police registered a case against the accused staff, and four school officials, including three teachers and the headmistress, have been suspended. Investigations are ongoing to verify the allegations and prevent similar tragedies.
The case highlights growing concerns over student mental health and campus harassment. Authorities and mental health experts stress that bullying and undue pressure in educational institutions can have devastating consequences and emphasize the importance of creating a supportive environment for students.
