Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis formally opened a new vehicle fleet of the Mumbai Police at Mahapalika Marg, Fort. This is under the continuing process of modernizing and streamlining the Mumbai Police force. While make and model specificities of the cars that constitute this new fleet are not created, this is typically an occurrence that announces the arrival of newer cars with current technology for maximizing policing effectiveness as well as reducing response time.
In recent years, the Mumbai Police have also augmented some of the vehicles in their fleet, like Mahindra TUV300s and Maruti Ertiga MUVs for Nirbhaya Squad, to enhance mobility and security, particularly for women.
They are fitted with facilities like vehicle tracking systems (VTS) so that their movement can be tracked from control rooms with the aim of getting connected to emergencies more quickly.
Fadnavis, being the Home minister, has taken various initiatives to enhance law and order in the state of Maharashtra. These include introducing the Cop24 plan in Pune to enhance police response time by means of 24-hour patrolling. He also ordered the retirement of aged government vehicles to be replaced by new ones in order to technify the transport sector, necessitating the use of technology in order to increase road safety.
One of these wider steps to make the public safe and bring policing standards in the state to a higher level is adding new vehicles to the fleet of Mumbai Police.
By providing the police with new vehicles, the government intends to increase response times and effectively tackle different security issues in the city. The move is one towards creating Mumbai a secure and safe place for its residents as well as for its guests.
