Renowned dancer Dona Ganguly has faced vulgar and abusive attacks on social media. The wife of Sourav Ganguly lodged a complaint at Thakurpukur Police Station on Wednesday evening. Based on her complaint, the police have begun a case against an unidentified individual.
Police stated that the derogatory comments were made following her dance performance at the Kolkata International Film Festival. According to Dona, she has been practising and performing Indian classical dance for 45 years. Dance is her profession and passion, and she performs Odissi across the world.
She pointed to a specific Facebook page as the source of the abuse. She alleged that the page engaged in “body shaming” and used insulting language against her, harming her reputation and dignity. She called the act defamatory and claimed the posts were deeply humiliating for any woman. Multiple photos of her were uploaded on that page with offensive comments, amounting to online harassment.
Police sources said Dona submitted screenshots of the posts along with her complaint. She also provided a mobile number linked to the page. Officials confirmed that an investigation has begun, and efforts are underway to trace the individuals responsible for the abusive posts using the mobile number and Facebook page details.
