In a major anti-narcotics operation, drugs valued at ₹5.93 crore were seized and three individuals were arrested in Assam, police officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to law enforcement authorities, the contraband was recovered during a targeted raid carried out based on specific intelligence inputs. The operation was conducted jointly by district police and anti-narcotics personnel, who intercepted the suspects and recovered a substantial quantity of suspected narcotic substances.
Preliminary investigation suggests the seized drugs were being transported for distribution across different parts of the region. Officials said the market value of the recovered substances is estimated at ₹5.93 crore in the illegal trade network.
The three accused have been taken into custody and are being interrogated to trace the source of the consignment and identify other members of the network. Police indicated that the accused may have links to inter-state or cross-border drug trafficking operations, though further verification is underway.
A senior police officer stated that the crackdown is part of Assam’s ongoing drive against narcotics trafficking. Over the past few years, the state has intensified surveillance along highways and vulnerable transit routes, aiming to dismantle supply chains and curb the inflow of illegal substances.
Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The seized materials have been sent for forensic examination to confirm their exact composition.
Officials reiterated their commitment to continuing anti-drug operations and urged citizens to report suspicious activities. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses and the accused are produced before a court for remand proceedings.
