Which matches will Eden Gardens host during the 2026 T20 World Cup? And how many? Discussions have been ongoing for days, and as per current reports, Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens is set to host several matches possibly seven in total, including one semifinal.
The ICC has reportedly finalized five venues in India for the tournament. Normally, a total of eight venues are chosen, and this time, since Pakistan will play its matches at neutral venues, three venues have been allocated in Sri Lanka.
The five Indian venues are Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi while Sri Lanka’s three venues will be Colombo, Kandy, and Galle. With these five venues in India, Eden Gardens is strongly tipped to get seven matches, with CAB officials hopeful that one semifinal will be among them.
However, if Pakistan qualifies for the semifinal or final, those matches will be played in Sri Lanka. The opening match is expected to be held in Ahmedabad, accompanied by a grand opening ceremony featuring Bollywood performances, though the lineup is yet to be confirmed.
There are also talks that India’s Women’s World Cup winning team might be invited to the opening event. The final is also likely to be held in Ahmedabad, unless Pakistan reaches the final in that case, the venue will shift to Sri Lanka.
