Education Ministry Urges Schools to Adopt UPI for Fee Payments

The Ministry of Education has asked all States, Union Territories, and related educational bodies to use the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for collecting school fees as part of its digital transformation efforts.

In a message from the Department of School Education and Literacy, States and UTs have been encouraged to promote digital payment systems to update administrative processes. This is especially important for financial transactions in schools. The goal is to improve convenience, transparency, and efficiency by letting parents and students make payments online without going to schools.

The Ministry noted that moving from cash to digital payments supports the government’s larger goal of promoting digital skills and financial understanding. Institutions like CBSE, NCERT, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) have been urged to look into and adopt secure digital payment options.

According to the Ministry, adding UPI and other digital payment methods in schools will be a significant step towards achieving the goal of a Viksit Bharat 2047 - a digitally empowered, inclusive, and student-focused education system.
