The funeral of Mitali, a 23-year-old woman who was kidnapped and found dead in Banur, saw an emotional farewell in Mohali on Saturday. Family members and local residents, holding roses and filled with grief, marched together, demanding that all those responsible be arrested before Mitali was laid to rest.
Mitali, who worked at an IT park in Panchkula, was kidnapped on March 7 from Badal Colony. Her body was found in a drain three days later in Banur. The crowd at her funeral in Zirakpur was filled with sorrow as her body arrived from Derabassi Hospital.
Mitali’s family claims that four men abducted her, and they say the police did not act quickly enough despite her father reporting the incident on March 7. He had even named one of the suspects, who had been harassing Mitali for some time.
On Saturday, SSP Deepak Pareek confirmed that three suspects – Sultan Mohammad, Raj Kumar, and Amandeep – were arrested near the Bihar-Nepal border. One suspect, Mohit Kumar, had already been arrested earlier, along with the vehicle used in the abduction.
Mitali’s family is demanding the death penalty for those involved. A relative said, “We want justice for our daughter. The police must take strict action against everyone responsible for her death.”
Derabassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa, who attended the funeral, called the incident deeply tragic. He said, “Crimes like this are unacceptable. We will ensure the harshest punishment for the guilty, and no one will be spared, including those who were negligent in their duties.”
