A fire broke out on Sunday morning in a storeroom of the Betul District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh, prompting staff to swiftly respond and prevent a major incident, officials said.
According to hospital authorities, smoke was first noticed inside the storeroom, following which staff members immediately activated emergency measures. The blaze was contained within minutes, and officials said the prompt action averted further damage. As a precaution, patients from the female and paediatric wards were moved to safer areas inside the hospital. Officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported.
A senior hospital officer said the relocation was carried out to “ensure complete safety of patients while the fire was being controlled”. Fire extinguishers installed on the premises were used by staff until the situation stabilised. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and an assessment of the storeroom is expected to be conducted to evaluate any damage to medical supplies or equipment.
Hospital authorities have stated that regular services resumed shortly after the incident, and additional precautions have been advised to prevent similar occurrences. Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the fire and review safety protocols within the facility.
