A foreign travel vlogger’s first-hand experience aboard India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train has gone viral, drawing widespread praise for the country’s latest leap in rail travel. The premium sleeper service, recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is operating on the Kamakhya (Guwahati)–Howrah (Kolkata) route and aims to transform overnight journeys between Northeast and Eastern India.
In a viral Instagram video titled “Foreigner POV: Vande Bharat sleeper train,” travel content creator Anusha documented her journey on the train’s very first commercial day. She expressed surprise at the modern look and feel of the train, noting that it did not resemble a typical Indian train experience.
“This is the Vande Bharat sleeper train from Guwahati to Kolkata. I am travelling on it on the very first day,” she said in the video, pointing out features such as the premium exterior, automatic glass doors, bright interiors and overall cleanliness. She also praised the comfortable seating and quality of food, adding that the experience felt closer to European train standards.
“The Vande Bharat sleeper doesn’t feel like a typical train,” Anusha remarked, calling it a glimpse into the future of rail travel in India. In her caption, she wrote that she was “honestly impressed” by the overall comfort and facilities.
The video quickly gained traction on social media, crossing over one lakh views, with many users applauding Indian Railways for the upgrade. Several commenters highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness and civic sense to ensure the train continues to deliver a world-class experience.
Others pointed to upcoming projects such as Vande Bharat 4.0 and high-speed rail initiatives, saying these developments show India’s ambition to modernise its transport infrastructure.
The Kamakhya–Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper is expected to significantly improve connectivity, reduce travel time and offer passengers a more comfortable overnight journey. With positive early reactions, the new service is being seen as a major step toward making Indian rail travel more modern, efficient and globally competitive.
