In a shocking incident in Ghaziabad, a 32-year-old woman was found murdered inside a red bag at her tenant’s flat in Raj Nagar Extension’s Aura Chimera high-rise late Wednesday night. The deceased, a school teacher who rented out her fifth-floor flat, had visited the tenant couple to collect pending rent for the past few months.
The police received a tip-off around 11:15 pm and conducted a search at the flat. Upon questioning, the tenant couple, identified as Ajay Gupta, a transporter, and Akriti Gupta, were detained. The couple, both in their early 30s, are being interrogated about the murder.
DCP Dhawal Jaiswal stated that prima facie, the woman appeared to have been strangled, with a head injury also inflicted, reportedly using a pressure cooker. “We recovered the body from the bag, and reports on social media claiming mutilation are false,” he added.
The investigation revealed that the deceased lived with her family in the first-floor flat of Tower M, while her rented flat was on the fifth floor of Tower L. Her domestic help, concerned after the woman failed to return, alerted the neighbors, leading to police intervention.
The victim had rented her flat to the suspect couple eight months ago at a monthly rent of ₹18,000. The police confirmed that an FIR will soon be registered following the complaint from her family.
Authorities continue to probe the motive and circumstances surrounding the murder. The case has raised concerns about safety for landlords visiting tenants alone.
