Odisha is preparing to position itself as a major green energy hub by 2036, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Saturday while inaugurating the three day Global Energy Leaders’ Summit 2025 in Puri.
Majhi said the state is working to cut its dependence on fossil fuels in a phased manner and is pushing for faster growth in renewable energy capacity. He noted that clean energy will shape Odisha’s economic future and strengthen its energy security.
According to the Chief Minister, the government is focusing on large scale investments in power infrastructure to ensure a steady supply of electricity, especially in rural regions. “Power is critical infrastructure for self reliance and youth empowerment,” Majhi said while outlining the administration’s long term vision.
He also said that the government intends to modernise the energy supply chain to support industries shifting to sustainable practices. The plan includes promoting solar and other renewable projects and encouraging private sector participation in green energy initiatives.
Majhi added that the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit will help Odisha showcase its reforms and attract partnerships that can support its transition to clean energy. The summit has brought together policymakers, industry leaders and experts to discuss the expansion of green technology and the future of energy markets.
The state government believes that the shift to renewable energy by 2036 will not only reduce environmental risks but also offer economic opportunities for communities. Majhi said the administration is committed to creating an ecosystem that supports innovation, investment and long term growth in the energy sector.
