Himachal Pradesh has earned global recognition by securing a place among the Most Welcoming Regions on Earth for 2026, according to Booking.com’s Traveller Review Awards. The northern Indian state ranked fifth on the prestigious list, making it the only Indian destination to feature among the top ten regions worldwide. The ranking was based on more than 370 million verified traveller reviews that evaluated destinations for their hospitality and visitor experience.
The award highlights Himachal Pradesh not only for its scenic beauty but also for the warmth and friendliness of its local communities. Travel experts note that hospitality plays a major role in shaping travellers’ experiences, often encouraging repeat visits and creating emotional connections with destinations. Himachal Pradesh has consistently attracted tourists for its balance of natural charm and welcoming atmosphere.
The list of the world’s most welcoming regions was topped by Hidalgo in Mexico, followed by Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada, Navarra in Spain, and Idaho in the United States. Himachal Pradesh stood out as a leading Asian destination, sharing the ranking with global tourism hotspots like Phang Nga in Thailand and Epirus in Greece.
Tourism officials and travel analysts attribute the recognition to Himachal Pradesh’s diverse travel offerings. Popular destinations such as Shimla and Manali continue to attract visitors with their vibrant tourist culture, adventure sports, and picturesque landscapes. Shimla, the state’s capital, is especially admired during winter when it transforms into a snow-covered tourist attraction.
The region also appeals to spiritual and nature-focused travellers through destinations like Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj, known for monasteries and peaceful surroundings. Adventure enthusiasts often visit Lahaul and Spiti, which offer rugged terrains, high-altitude trekking routes, and offbeat travel experiences.
The global recognition is expected to boost tourism in Himachal Pradesh further, strengthening India’s reputation as a diverse and welcoming travel destination. Industry experts believe the achievement will encourage international travellers to explore the region while supporting local communities and tourism-based businesses across the state.
