Actor Hina Khan has bravely shared her battle with stage 3 breast cancer, revealing that her family has a history of the disease. Diagnosed in June 2024, Hina took to Instagram to inform her fans and assure them that she is managing well despite the challenges of treatment.
During a recent appearance on Soha Ali Khan’s YouTube podcast, Hina discussed how her family history made her aware of the risks, though she never expected it to happen to her. “Because we have had a family history, we were aware of the fact that this is a possibility. But I never thought it was going to happen to me,” she said. She also revealed that she routinely performed self-exams, driven by both awareness and fear.
Hina described how she approached her diagnosis with a practical mindset, focusing on treatment planning and financial arrangements rather than succumbing to despair. She credited her family, friends, and medical team for providing strength during this difficult period.
On the podcast, Dr. Sewanti Limaye, Director of Medical and Precision Oncology at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital, advised that people with a family history of cancer consider regular screenings earlier than the age at which their relatives were diagnosed. She emphasized the importance of paying attention to symptoms such as lumps, fatigue, or changes in menstrual cycles and seeking medical advice promptly.
Hina also highlighted the different ways people respond to fear some avoid screenings, while others, like her, use fear as motivation to stay vigilant about their health. Her story serves as an inspiration, demonstrating the importance of awareness, early detection, and support systems in managing cancer.
Hina Khan continues to share her journey publicly, raising awareness about breast cancer and encouraging others to take proactive steps toward their health.
