In a sharp rebuke at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India's Permanent Representative, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, accused Pakistan of "systematic genocide" and described it as a country that "bombs its own people." His remarks came during the Open Debate on Women, Peace, and Security, marking the 25th anniversary of UN Resolution 1325.
Ambassador Harish's criticism was in response to a Pakistani official's allegations about sexual violence against Kashmiri women. He stated, "Every year, we are unfortunately fated to listen to the delusional tirade of Pakistan against my country, especially on Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian territory they covet." He emphasized India's "unblemished and unscathed" record on the Women, Peace, and Security agenda.
Highlighting historical events, Ambassador Harish referred to Pakistan's Operation Searchlight in 1971, which he claimed involved a "systematic campaign" of mass rape by its own army, affecting 400,000 women. He concluded by stating, "The world sees through Pakistan's propaganda."
This exchange underscores the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly concerning the Jammu and Kashmir region.
