India has initiated 'Operation Brahma' to deliver humanitarian aid to Myanmar following a catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28, 2025. The Mandalay region earthquake was extremely destructive and claimed at least 694 lives and over 1,700 injuries.
As a response to the disaster, India sent close to 15 tonnes of essential relief materials to the affected region. Indian Air Force C130J aircraft took off from Hindon Air Force Station and landed at Yangon safely, delivering relief that is destined to assist the disaster's victims.
The relief material includes tents, sleeping bags, blankets, ready-to-eat meal packets, water purification units, solar lanterns, generator sets, and essential medicines.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed India's support to Myanmar in this challenging time and pledged that India is prepared to offer all kinds of support. He asked the officials to stay in touch with their Myanmar counterparts to organize relief work.
Operation Brahma is also a part of India's broader effort to increase humanitarian assistance in times of need.
Operation Brahma comes after earlier operations like 'Operation Sadbhav' when floods devastated Vietnam and 'Operation Dost' for relief in Syria and Turkey following earthquakes.
While rescue operations are being carried out in Myanmar, India is ready to assist its neighbour in its recovery process.
