Marking the 10th Armed Forces Veterans Day, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid heartfelt tributes to ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and their families at a commemorative event held at ALG Rajouri. The occasion underscored the often unseen sacrifices of soldiers whose dedication, he said, keeps the nation safe while citizens live in peace.
Addressing veterans and serving personnel, the Lieutenant Governor described armed forces veterans as “living history,” whose courage and service have shaped India’s destiny. He noted that military service is not confined to years in uniform but remains a lifelong commitment that continues even after retirement, through contributions to peace, social harmony and nation-building.
Highlighting the quiet resilience of soldiers, the LG said their sacrifices frequently go unnoticed. “While the nation sleeps, they stand guard. While families celebrate festivals, our soldiers protect the borders far from home,” he remarked, adding that sacrifice is not spoken of by soldiers—it is lived every day.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor inaugurated a “Wall of Fame” to honour bravery and launched a dedicated police helpline service for veterans, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the welfare of veterans and their families under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasised that veterans serve as role models for the youth, embodying character, discipline and timeless values.
Paying homage to Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, the LG also remembered the valour of decorated heroes including Second Lieutenant Ram Raghoba Rane, Brigadier Mohammad Usman and Naik Jadunath Singh, along with brave soldiers from Rajouri.
A mega Ex-Servicemen Rally marked the day, during which motorised wheelchairs, retrofitted scooties and other mobility aids were distributed to veterans and Veer Naris. Senior army officers, elected representatives, civil and police officials, along with prominent citizens, attended the event and joined in honouring the enduring service and sacrifice of India’s armed forces.
