IPL Team Owner Says India Needs Separate Red-Ball Coach

Ever since India’s crushing defeat to South Africa, head coach Gautam Gambhir has faced intense criticism from across the cricket fraternity. Now, an IPL team owner has openly stated that the Indian Test team needs a separate coach for red-ball cricket. The speaker is Parth Jindal, co-owner of Delhi Capitals and a key partner of the JSW Group.

On his X handle, Jindal wrote, “Calling it disappointing would be an understatement. I’ve never seen our Test team look so weak at home. This is what happens when specialist red-ball players are not selected. India is extremely strong in red-ball cricket, but this squad shows none of that strength. That’s why the Indian Test team needs a dedicated red-ball coach.”

Notably, Sourav Ganguly is associated with Delhi Capitals as the Director of Cricket for JSW Sports, which owns half of the franchise. The team also includes Karun Nair, who made a strong IPL comeback last season but was again overlooked for the Test squad. Days ago, Karun posted a cryptic message on X: “Certain situations create certain feelings in the heart. Not being there makes the silence feel like a thorn.” Many interpreted it as a comment on India’s current Test struggles.

Following Karun’s post, Parth Jindal’s sharp remarks appear to directly attack the state of the national team raising questions about whether he is also standing up for his franchise players.
