Police have filed a case against a 30-year-old IPS officer on charges of raping a woman doctor in Maharashtra's Nagpur after promising her marriage, officials said on Sunday.
The 28-year-old woman went to the Imamwada Police Station in Nagpur with a complaint on Friday, they added.
The woman and the man got in contact via social media website Instagram in November 2022, an official said.
The accused was then studying for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams, and the woman was studying MBBS course, police added.
Soon, their chat online became telephone calls. Once they became friends, the accused assured the woman that he would marry her and entered into a physical relationship with her, police added.
After having been chosen for the Indian Police Service (IPS), the accused began to evade the woman and declined to marry her, the official added.
