A series of Israeli airstrikes has escalated violence in southern Lebanon and Gaza, causing significant casualties and raising fears of further confrontation. Israeli forces struck a Palestinian refugee camp near Sidon in southern Lebanon, killing at least 13 people and wounding several others. The Israeli military defended the attack, claiming it targeted a Hamas training site, but Hamas denied the accusation, calling the strike a "brutal attack" on civilians and Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Another airstrike in Lebanon’s Bint Jbeil district killed one person and injured several schoolchildren. Israeli forces also conducted operations in southern Gaza, including air raids in Rafah and Khan Younis, resulting in civilian injuries despite ongoing ceasefire efforts.
Since October 2023, Israel's conflict with Palestinian groups has killed over 69,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 170,000. Israeli casualties from the 2023 Hamas-led attacks exceed 1,100, including approximately 200 hostages.
In the West Bank, Israeli forces conducted raids across several governorates, detaining over 100 Palestinians in Beit Ummar and shooting a 14-year-old in al-Yamoun, deepening tensions in the occupied territory.
Meanwhile, Hamas and allied Gaza factions rejected a UN Security Council resolution proposing an international governing body and stabilization force to oversee Gaza. They criticized the plan as undermining Palestinian self-determination and aligning with a broader campaign against Palestinians led by the US and allies.
Gaza residents remain focused on daily survival, grappling with severe shortages of water, food, and safety, skeptical that international diplomatic efforts will yield immediate relief.
The region remains on edge, with continuing violence and political fallout threatening to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis and destabilize efforts for peace.
