India’s space agency ISRO is preparing to launch its heaviest communication satellite to date, CMS-03, also known as GSAT-7R, on November 2, 2025. The satellite, weighing approximately 4,410 kilograms, will be launched aboard the indigenous Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3), dubbed "Bahubali" for its heavy-lift capability. The launch will take place at 5:26 PM from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
CMS-03 is a multi-band communication satellite designed to provide extended telecommunication coverage over India and surrounding oceanic regions. It carries transponders supporting C, extended C, and Ku bands, enhancing data, voice, and video links. This satellite will significantly boost India’s civilian connectivity and strategic military communication, particularly benefiting the Indian Navy by enabling secure communication across its naval assets.
The LVM3 rocket, standing 43.5 meters tall, has a proven track record, including successfully launching the Chandrayaan-3 mission that achieved a historic lunar south pole landing. This launch marks the fifth operational flight of LVM3 and highlights ISRO’s growing capacity to deploy heavier and more complex payloads from Indian soil.
The launch is closely watched nationally and internationally as an important milestone in India’s space program. ISRO has set up live streaming of the event on its official platforms to allow public viewing of the liftoff and mission progress.
CMS-03’s deployment is expected to enhance India’s digital infrastructure, improve maritime security, and reinforce the country’s status in the global space community. With advancements in satellite technology and heavier launch vehicles, ISRO continues expanding its capabilities for strategic and commercial space operations.
This mission underscores India’s goal to achieve greater self-reliance in space and strengthen communication networks across geographically challenging and strategically vital areas.
