Jammu Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced plans to elevate Jammu Tawi Golf Course (JTGC) in Sidhra as a premier national destination for golfers. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony for paragliders completing their training at JTGC, he emphasized the untapped potential of Jammu’s tourism and sports infrastructure.
The Chief Minister highlighted that while popular tournaments are organized in Srinagar, Pahalgam, and Gulmarg, Jammu’s golf facilities remain underutilized. Efforts are underway to host more events at JTGC and promote the region as a center for golfing excellence.
In line with enhancing adventure and sports tourism, Abdullah laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art indoor swimming pool at JTGC, signaling a significant boost to local sports infrastructure. The event also marked the launch of the Jammu Gedi Bus Service, a new transport initiative designed to connect tourists to key destinations including Surinsar-Mansar and Suchetgarh, strengthening the region’s tourism network.
The Chief Minister stressed that Jammu offers a diverse tourism portfolio, including heritage, pilgrimage, border, and adventure tourism, all of which require sustained promotion. He outlined the government’s commitment to improving connectivity, facilities, and opportunities across the region, aiming to attract more visitors and elevate Jammu’s national profile.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Transport Minister Satish Sharma, CM Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Yudhvir Sethi, and senior officials attended the event. Abdullah praised the paragliders for completing their course and encouraged them to serve as ambassadors for Jammu’s adventure tourism sector.
With these initiatives, Jammu is positioning itself not just as a secure region but as a thriving hub for sports and tourism, reflecting the government’s focus on economic growth, infrastructure development, and the promotion of local talent.
