Actress Ranya Rao was arrested yesterday at the Bengaluru airport after being found in possession of 14.8 kg of gold without proper documentation. She was intercepted during a security check, thereby resulting in a major investigation into the gold's ownership and her intention to smuggle it.
The airport officials became suspicious because of the large amount of gold kept in her baggage. And when inspected, she was not able to furnish any valid documents to justify it. Subsequently, she was seized by the customs for further questioning.
This case is attracting great attention, with authorities suspecting a possible gold-smuggling racket. Investigations are conducted to understand whether she was working alone or was part of a much larger racket.
Ranya Rao has not taken an official stand till yet; meanwhile, officials are zipping ahead with the investigations.
