A routine business trip to Hyderabad turned into a violent ordeal for a 26-year-old businessman from Kerala, who was shot in the leg and robbed of ₹6 lakh outside a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM in the city’s busy Koti area.
The victim, identified as Rinshad P V, a clothes trader from Kozhikode, had travelled to Hyderabad earlier this month to purchase stock for his business. When the deal failed to materialise, his cousin advised him to deposit the cash he was carrying into his bank account.
According to police, the incident occurred around 7 am on January 31. Rinshad reached the SBI main branch ATM on Bank Street Road on a two-wheeler belonging to his friend, Ameer. As he stood near the ATM with a bag containing ₹6 lakh in cash, two unidentified men approached him from behind.
“One of the assailants pressed a firearm against him and fired two rounds. One bullet struck Rinshad in the right leg, causing him to collapse,” a police official said. The attackers then snatched the cash bag and fled the scene with the victim’s bike keys, escaping on his vehicle.
Investigators said the suspects rode towards Chaderghat and later abandoned the bike in the Kachiguda area after changing their clothes. They then fled on foot. Rinshad was rushed to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
A case has been registered at Sultan Bazar Police Station under sections related to robbery and attempt to murder. Special crime teams are analysing CCTV footage from nearby areas and coordinating with neighbouring police stations to trace the suspects.
Police are also probing whether the attackers had prior information about the cash, though no conclusions have been reached so far. Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar has urged the public to share any information that may help the investigation.
