An Indian biotech professional has shared an inspiring story of resilience and timing after landing a job in Germany almost immediately after being laid off in the United States. Ananya Joshi, who was working as a bioprocess scientist in the US, described the experience as nothing short of “divine intervention.”
In a video posted on Instagram, Joshi revealed that just two hours before she was officially informed about her layoff, she came across a LinkedIn post for a biotech role in Germany. Instead of following the conventional application route, she decided to take a bold step — she directly emailed the company’s CEO and CTO, outlining her background and interest in the role. To her surprise, both executives responded the very next morning and invited her for an interview.
The hiring process moved quickly but was intense. Joshi was asked to give a 20-minute presentation on her previous projects, professional experience, and even her hobbies. For the final round, the company offered to fly her to Germany at their expense. However, due to the uncertainty of international travel and her limited visa grace period in the US, she opted to attend the interview virtually. The final round lasted nearly five hours and involved discussions with multiple team members.
By the end of the session, Joshi said she was told the interview was largely a formality and that the job was essentially hers. The official offer arrived just as her F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT) was nearing its end. Although she had to return to India in September 2025, the German company adjusted her joining date to early 2026 due to internal fundraising timelines.
In her post, Joshi wrote a line that resonated with many: “You’re not unworthy, you’re simply in the wrong place.” Notably, she was hired despite not speaking German. Her story has drawn widespread praise online and comes at a time when Germany is actively recruiting skilled Indian professionals, especially in biotech, IT, and engineering, to address labour shortages.
