Parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced light rain on Wednesday morning, bringing some relief from recent warm weather and lowering daytime temperatures slightly, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather office had earlier predicted very light showers and cloudy skies, and the rainfall early in the day aligned with that forecast.
The IMD also issued a yellow alert for the region, warning residents of very light to light rain accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain lower than recent levels, with forecasts indicating highs around 26–28°C and lows near 13–15°C, reflecting a minor dip in the mercury compared with the past few days.
This change in weather comes after Delhi experienced an unseasonably warm spell earlier in the week, when temperatures briefly climbed close to 31°C — one of the highest so far this year for February. The light rain has helped to ease the atmosphere and provided temporary respite from the warmth.
According to the IMD forecast, cloud cover and intermittent showers could persist through the day, though no severe weather is expected. The yellow alert serves as a precaution to stay informed about changing conditions, but authorities do not foresee major disruptions due to rain.
Weather experts say that such light rainfall events in February are often linked to western disturbances, which can bring brief spells of rain and cooler air to northern India. While the overall winter chill has mostly eased, this shower helped moderate temperatures and may influence the short‑term pattern before a return to seasonal norms.
Residents were also reminded to monitor updates, as scattered rain and wind gusts could briefly affect parts of the capital later in the day.
