The significance and rituals of Maha Shivratri:
During this night of latent spirit, the contribution of Ganga water, milk, Bilva leaves, Dhatura flowers, honey, and incense is rendered to the Shiva Lingam. Milk and water poured over the Lingam are held in utmost sanctity. Chanting of the divine "Om Namah Shivaya" eradicates sins and brings about peace. Fasting and night-long vigils while praying before Lord Shiva convey not just intimate allegiance but also personal utility and spiritual practice.
