Jaipur: A media delegation from Maharashtra, organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Mumbai, is touring Rajasthan from 2 to 8 November to observe the implementation of Central Government development schemes across the state. The group, consisting of senior editors and reporters, began its visit in Jodhpur on Monday.

The delegation reviewed research and field activities at the Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), the Arid Forest Research Institute (AFRI), and the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT). The day concluded with a heritage walk through Jodhpur’s historic lanes, offering a glimpse into the city’s cultural legacy.

At CAZRI, Director Dr S.P.S. Tanwar explained the institute’s pioneering work in desert agriculture and natural resource management. He said that CAZRI’s research on dune stabilisation, water conservation and integrated farming had “significantly enhanced greenery and productivity” in arid regions. Scientists presented innovations in drought-resistant crops, forage development and agro-voltaic systems that combine solar power generation with farming.

At AFRI, Acting Director Dr Tarun Kant briefed the team on sustainable forestry practices for dry regions. The institute’s projects include tree improvement, rehabilitation of degraded lands and awareness programmes promoting environmental sustainability among communities. Dr Kant also highlighted the introduction of forest soil health cards and tree grower fairs aimed at farmers and schools.

The visit to IIHT showcased the institute’s role in modernising the handloom sector. Director Shri K.J. Shivgyanam said that IIHT seeks “100 per cent employability” through skill-based courses and industry-linked training. He outlined initiatives under government schemes such as PMKVY, aimed at nurturing entrepreneurship and innovation in handloom production.

Assistant Director Shri Raviveer Chaudhary from the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) also briefed the delegation on training, marketing and financial support schemes for artisans.

The tour will continue in Jaisalmer and Barmer, focusing on renewable energy and refinery operations, before concluding in Jaipur with visits to railway projects and heritage sites.
