Filmmaker Mira Nair, mother of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, has been mentioned in a fresh tranche of documents released by the US Justice Department as part of the Jeffrey Epstein files. The documents include emails, videos and images connected to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
According to an email dated October 21, 2009, Nair attended an afterparty linked to her film Amelia. The gathering reportedly took place at the New York townhouse of Ghislaine Maxwell, who was later convicted for her role in Epstein’s sex trafficking network. The email was sent by publicist Peggy Siegal to Epstein shortly after the event.
In the email, Siegal described leaving “Ghislaine’s townhouse” following the afterparty and listed several attendees, including former US President Bill Clinton, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, French restaurateur Jean Pigozzi, and director Mira Nair. The message also commented on the audience response to Amelia, calling it “tepid,” while noting that women in particular seemed to like the film more.
The Justice Department release is extensive, reportedly running into more than three million pages and including around 2,000 videos and 180,000 images. Officials said the documents are part of a broader effort to make public previously sealed material connected to Epstein’s activities and associates.
The newly released files have drawn attention for naming several high-profile figures across politics, business and entertainment. Separate emails in the documents also reference exchanges between Epstein and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, adding to the scrutiny surrounding Epstein’s network.
The appearance of names in the files does not imply criminal wrongdoing unless explicitly stated in court findings. The disclosures have nevertheless renewed public debate over Epstein’s social circle and the extent of his access to influential individuals over the years.
