A group of protesters arrested in two separate cases linked to demonstrations near India Gate received mixed outcomes in court proceedings, with one court granting bail while another ordered judicial custody.
Nine accused were granted bail by a Delhi court in a case involving an alleged scuffle at the Parliament Street police station. The incident had led to the arrest of seventeen individuals, who were booked for their involvement in the confrontation with police personnel.
However, in a parallel development, another Delhi court ordered eight of the same individuals into seven days’ judicial custody in a separate case. This second case, registered at the Kartavya Path police station, pertains to the alleged use of pepper spray on police officers during the agitation at India Gate. Six protesters were arrested in relation to this incident. In total, twenty-three people were taken into custody across both cases. Police officials stated that the arrests were made following disturbances during the demonstration, which reportedly escalated into acts of aggression against law enforcement officers.
Legal proceedings are continuing in both matters, with the courts assessing the circumstances surrounding each incident. The protesters’ legal representatives are expected to seek further relief in the coming days, while police inquiries remain underway.
