Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the much-anticipated NaMo Bharat train service and the Meerut Metro on Sunday, marking a major milestone in India’s push for high-speed regional connectivity. The launch event will take place in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, where the Prime Minister will also address a public gathering and unveil development projects worth nearly ₹12,930 crore.
According to officials, the Prime Minister will arrive at Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad around 11 am before heading to the Shatabdi Nagar NaMo Bharat Station in Meerut. At approximately 12:30 pm, he will flag off both the NaMo Bharat train and the Meerut Metro. Following the ceremony, Modi, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will take a metro ride to Meerut South station.
The inauguration includes the dedication of the entire 82-km Delhi–Meerut NaMo Bharat corridor, India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Designed for speeds of up to 180 kmph, the NaMo Bharat train aims to significantly cut travel time between Delhi and Meerut. The Meerut Metro, operating on the same infrastructure, will run at a top speed of around 120 kmph and is expected to cover the full stretch in about 30 minutes.
Authorities have implemented tight security arrangements and traffic diversions across Meerut in view of the Prime Minister’s visit. The Centre describes the project as a transformative step toward reducing congestion, promoting sustainable urban mobility, and enhancing economic growth in western Uttar Pradesh.
The high-speed corridor is expected to provide faster, safer, and more efficient travel for daily commuters while strengthening regional connectivity between Delhi and key urban hubs.
