Bhubaneswar: In a historic first, President Droupadi Murmu is set to address the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Thursday during her two-day visit to the state. This marks the first time in India's history that a sitting President will speak before the state legislature.

The address is scheduled to take place from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, according to Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy. "This is a momentous occasion for the state, and we are honoured to have President Murmu address the Assembly," Padhy said. Murmu, who hails from Odisha, has deep connections to the state’s political landscape. Prior to her presidency, she was a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, representing the Rairangpur constituency. Her elevation to the highest office in the country has been a source of pride for Odisha, and her address to the Assembly is seen as a symbol of recognition for the state's rich political history.

The visit is expected to be a significant moment in Odisha’s political calendar, with several dignitaries and lawmakers likely to attend the session. Murmu’s tenure as President has been marked by her strong connection to her roots in Odisha, and this visit serves as a reminder of her enduring legacy within the state.

The address will also be an opportunity for the President to speak directly to the elected representatives of her home state, further solidifying her bond with the people and leaders of Odisha.
