Tension flared at the Kempegowda International Airport after passengers staged a protest when their flight to Nepal reportedly failed to land for the second consecutive day, leaving dozens stranded and frustrated.
According to passengers, the flight bound for Kathmandu was unable to complete its journey due to operational and weather-related issues, forcing it to either divert or return without landing in Kathmandu. Travellers alleged that they were provided limited clarity about the reasons behind the repeated disruption, leading to mounting anger inside the terminal.
Videos circulating on social media showed groups of passengers raising slogans and demanding immediate arrangements, including alternative flights or full refunds. Some claimed they had onward connections and urgent commitments in Nepal, which were severely impacted by the delay.
Airport officials confirmed that the situation was brought under control after airline representatives engaged with passengers and assured them of assistance. The airline, in a brief statement, cited “unforeseen circumstances” affecting landing operations in Nepal but did not elaborate on specific technical details. It said affected passengers were being offered accommodation, rebooking options, or refunds as per policy.
Aviation experts noted that flights to Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport can occasionally face challenges due to unpredictable weather patterns, terrain constraints and air traffic congestion. However, repeated disruptions within two days raise questions about operational planning and communication with passengers.
Several travellers complained that information was relayed at the last minute, adding to confusion and anxiety. “We understand weather problems, but we deserve transparency,” one passenger said during the protest.
Security personnel were deployed at the boarding gates to prevent escalation, though the demonstration remained largely peaceful. Airport authorities reiterated that passenger safety remains the top priority and that decisions regarding landing are made based on strict aviation safety protocols.
As airlines work to clear the backlog, affected passengers are hoping for smoother coordination and clearer communication especially when cross-border travel plans hang in the balance.
