Panic erupted in Phillaur late Saturday evening when an NRI youth allegedly fired at a social worker’s associate outside his residence. The accused, identified as Rahul from Lakkar Mandi, recently returned from abroad. The incident took place near Atwal House, the home of prominent social worker Mandeep Singh Dosanjh.

Reports suggest that Rahul visited Dosanjh’s residence under the guise of discussing property matters. During the meeting, the situation turned violent when Rahul drew a pistol. In an attempt to intervene, Dosanjh’s associate, Sanjeev Kumar, was shot in the leg. The injured man was immediately taken to Phillaur Civil Hospital and later referred to Ludhiana for advanced treatment. His condition is critical but stable.

Following the attack, Rahul fled the scene in a black Thar SUV along with an accomplice. Police quickly cordoned off the area, reviewed CCTV footage, and established checkpoints across the district to trace the suspects. Authorities issued a lookout circular at all airports to prevent the accused from leaving the country.

Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and illegal firearm possession. Multiple teams are conducting raids in Phillaur and surrounding areas to locate the accused. Authorities have urged the public to provide any information that may help in tracking him down.

The incident has raised concerns in the local community, as Mandeep Singh Dosanjh is a respected figure known for his public welfare initiatives. Investigations are ongoing, and police officials have promised swift action once the accused is apprehended.

The Phillaur shooting highlights growing anxieties over violent incidents involving returning NRIs and the need for timely law enforcement responses to such cases.
