A Pakistani woman living in Karachi has issued a desperate public appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that her husband abandoned her and is now secretly preparing for a second marriage in Delhi. The woman, identified as Nikita Nagdev, has shared an emotional video seeking justice, triggering widespread concerns among social groups and legal forums in both India and Pakistan.
According to Nikita, she married Vikram Nagdev, a Pakistani-origin man living in Indore on a long-term visa, on January 26, 2020, in Karachi following Hindu customs. Vikram brought her to India a month later, on February 26. However, within months, her life changed drastically.
Nikita claims that on July 9, 2020, Vikram left her at the Attari border under the pretext of a “visa technicality” and forcibly sent her back to Pakistan. Since then, she says he has made no attempt to bring her back. “I kept requesting him to call me to India, but he refused every time,” she said in her video statement.
She further alleged that her husband’s family mistreated her soon after the wedding, and she later discovered that Vikram was having an affair with one of her relatives. When she informed her father-in-law, she claims he dismissed her concerns saying, “Boys have affairs, nothing can be done.”
Once back in Karachi during the COVID-19 lockdown, Nikita learned that Vikram was preparing for a second marriage with a woman in Delhi. Fearing abandonment while still legally married, she filed a written complaint on January 27, 2025.
The case was taken up by the Sindhi Panch Mediation and Legal Counsel Centre, authorised by the Madhya Pradesh High Court. A hearing was conducted, but mediation failed. In April 2025, the Centre reported that since neither spouse holds Indian citizenship, the matter falls under Pakistan’s jurisdiction. It recommended that Vikram be deported to Pakistan.
Earlier in May 2025, Nikita approached the Indore Social Panchayat, which also supported deportation. Indore Collector Ashish Singh confirmed that an inquiry is underway, and action will follow based on the final report.
Nikita continues to urge Indian authorities to ensure justice, saying, “Every woman deserves justice in India.”
