Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown India's intent to provide assistance after a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar's central region on March 28, 2025. The epicenter of the quake was in Sagaing, some 16 km north-northwest of the town, and struck at about 12:50 PM local time. The quake was severely felt in neighboring Thailand, where an under-construction building in Bangkok collapsed, with at least 43 people reported missing.

Following the tragedy, Modi had conveyed his sympathy with the victims and assured that India is ready to provide all kinds of assistance to Myanmar.

The Indian government is monitoring the situation closely and in contact with the concerned officials to check how it can assist in the rescue and relief works to the best.

This was preceded by a significant 6.4 Richter scale aftershock which also added to the chaos as Myanmar and Thailand nationals were rushing out of structures in complete hysteria.

Internet blog posts by the media reported on the magnitude of damage from crashed buildings to reported accidents.

While rescue work is ongoing in both countries, the situation remains fluid, with ongoing assessment of losses and needs of people hit by this act of nature.
