President Murmu Arrives in Portugal, Kicks Off Two-Nation Visit

President Droupadi Murmu has reached Lisbon, Portugal, starting her historic four-day state visit to Portugal and Slovakia. The visit is important as it is the first Indian President's visit to Portugal in 27 years and to Slovakia in 29 years. 

The visit of Murmu is coinciding with India and Portugal's 50th year of diplomatic ties to further enhance their multi-faceted engagement and build stronger relations with the European Union.

President Murmu during her Portugal visit will hold delegation-level talks with President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, meet Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, and meet the Speaker of the Parliament, Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco. She will also attend a President Sousa banquet and a special event hosted by the Mayor of Lisbon.

Murmu will subsequently visit Slovakia on April 9-10, when she will conduct bilateral talks with President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico. 

The trip is an extension of India's efforts to consolidate its relations with both Portugal and Slovakia on common areas such as trade, education, and defense.
