New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu is set to formally inaugurate a free Pink National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for women residents of Delhi on Monday as part of a wider push to enhance women’s access to public transport and reduce commuting costs. The launch ceremony will take place at the “Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi” event at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, organised by the Delhi government’s Department of Women and Child Development.
The new Pink NCMC card will allow eligible women to travel free of cost on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses across the national capital, with the cost of the free rides fully borne by the Delhi government. In addition to free bus travel, the card can also be used for paid journeys on the Delhi Metro, Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and other public transport services through a single, smart contactless card.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the initiative is designed to make public transport more accessible, digital and affordable for women, helping them save on daily travel expenses while improving their access to education, jobs and healthcare. The scheme is expected to benefit a large number of women across the city by making commuting safer and more convenient.
Under the programme, the government will issue three categories of mobility cards:
Pink Card – for eligible women residents, offering free DTC bus travel,
Blue Card – for general commuters,
Orange Card – for monthly pass users, with the latter to be introduced in a later phase.
The Pink cards will be integrated with the Automatic Fare Collection System used across Delhi’s transport network and will replace earlier paper-based tickets, offering a touch-free digital travel experience with better transparency and tracking of journeys. Around 50 issuance centres including District Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Magistrate offices and selected DTC locations will help women apply for and receive their cards with minimal documentation.
The launch of the free Pink Mobility Card marks a major step towards women’s empowerment and mobility in Delhi, tying into broader goals of gender-inclusive public services and digital India initiatives.
